What does an album sound like when the room itself becomes an instrument?

For one evening, CCRMA's ambisonic stage room is reconfigured as a Dolby Atmos playback environment, inviting you inside two albums the way their creators heard them, as three-dimensional worlds of sound.

We will listen to extracts from two recent immersive works: Franck Martin – Thanks for the Invite, an album produced in Logic Pro and mixed natively for Dolby Atmos, where space itself is treated as a compositional dimension; and Joachim Garraud – OVP3, the latest spatial chapter from the French Touch producer known for his collaborations with David Guetta and Jean-Michel Jarre.

The extracts will be played from the original Dolby Atmos master files through the Dolby Atmos Renderer, at full production fidelity. Between listenings, we'll pull back the curtain: how the CCRMA ambisonic room was adapted and calibrated for Atmos playback, how the tracks were created, and the artistic and technical choices behind them, from object placement and spatial choreography to how the room itself shapes what we hear.

CCRMA Stage Room

This is meant to be an exchange, not a lecture. Come ready to share your own experiences and questions, we want to learn from the people in the room as much as we hope to share what we've discovered. Join us for an evening of music, conversation, and deep listening at the intersection of production, spatial audio, and craft.
